Chrissie Barlow has joined the Home-Start Winchester board. She has lived in Hampshire all her life, apart from brief periods in the West Country, Kent and London where she began her working life in the Diplomatic Corps, becoming one of four secretaries to the Foreign and Commonwealth Secretary (Michael Stewart and later Sir Alec Douglas-Home).

While living in Plymouth she joined Westward Television, becoming a Production Assistant at Southern Television and then TVS in Southampton.  She was promoted to Head of Production Assistants, managing a department of 40 across two sites in Southampton and Maidstone.

“One of my career highlights was to work on the ITV coverage of the funerals of Diana, Princess of Wales and The Queen Mother,” says Chrissie, who later became Programme and Finance Manager for Meridian Broadcasting.After they shut down major programming, she became a Production Manager for Lion Television in London.

“Apart from two weeks working in a children’s home in Romania for a charity called Jacob’s Well, I’ve never had time to do voluntary work but now I’m fully retired I want to give something back to the community,” says Chrissie.
