Lanterns

Sponsored by BBC Children in Need and based at Lanterns, this group runs one morning a week for 48 weeks of the year and provides structured play activities for the children: music, songs and rhymes, painting, water, sand, craft work and story time. Two volunteers help our Family Group Leader, Liz Brown, and our Family Group Support Worker, Laura Wilson.

BBC Children in Need visited us in 2011 and wrote “It was brilliant to visit your project – we are always very keen to visit our grantees to help our projects come to life for us…we both had a great day, and found the visit very interesting as well as seeing how fun the project is for the families involved!”

In 2017 we launched a Family Group at Milford House in Winchester, a hostel for homeless families.

Some quotes from our parents:

“Before you told me about this Group, I never went out of the house. I was bordering on agoraphobic. Now I can walk the dog and go shopping.”

“(My daughter) is completely different since we’ve been coming here. She burst into tears when we had to leave last week.”

“It helps you make friends you wouldn’t normally make. It’s hard to make friends when you are an adult.”

Parent

“Before I came here I didn’t have the confidence to go to any Group – now I am much braver.”
